Our introduction to the public

Hello! We are so thankful that you are here. My name is Katie and I am the founder of Survivors Against Distracted Driving.

Survivors Against Distracted Driving stirred within my mind and heart and then unfolded following my youngest Daughter's accident in 2022. Addi survived a pedestrian vs suv event while looking at Christmas lights at a church with her Dad and two of her Brothers. It is a miracle that she is still with us (for the full story, we invite you to please visit our Sister outreach website: www.addismiracle.com) Three months after we brought Addi home from the hospital, we were rear ended on the freeway as we headed home from Doctor's appointments. Addi sustained a secondary injury due to distracted driving.

I knew without a doubt that I was meant to do something with Addi's story. A lot of praying, statistic and data searching...I started in our state (Arizona) but quickly became curious about the remaining states in the United States. The numbers scared me. Statistically Distracted Driving injuries and fatalities sit high enough that we all will most likely fall victim to a car accident because of distracted driving. The question is, do we survive. It's literally just a matter of "When".

That didn't and still does not sit well with me. Addi is the youngest of 10 and I, just like many of you am the Mama to young drivers. I knew pretty quickly that what I was called to do with Addi's story and survival was to bring awareness, educate and advocate for something that is considered to be at crisis level by the National highway traffic association.

Next, was choosing the name. That came easy...Survivors of Distracted Driving. Each and every person that comes out of a distracted driving accident alive, is a SURVIVOR! The war against the epidemic that is distracted driving, starts here with our outreach.

Yes, I did struggle a bit with the abbreviation's being "SADD" but you know, the more I thought about it and prayed about it...CHOOSING to drive distracted, putting your life and others lives at risk, is an incredibly SAD decision and action.

I have been incredibly blessed to have built a great advocacy team. I hardly had to go out searching for them, in one way or another they found me. I have had to laugh to myself when I think about the career resumes that follow our PR and Safety Liason...I asked for their help and to be a part of something BIG before I knew of all their accomplishments. It was definetly meant to be that way...My anxiety probably would have kept me from asking them if I knew beforehand!

I know that our advocacy team will continue to grow. Our outreach is going to become something big. The war against distracted driving starts here and I hope that you will join us in our efforts to bring fourth change and see the numbers fall, because ONE is too many.

Survivors Against Distraced Driving Advocacy Goals

At the core of everything we do is a commitment to transparency, truth, and transformative impact. We believe that surface-level presentations and basic statistics are no longer enough—real change demands raw honesty, difficult conversations, and deep connection. The numbers aren’t going down fast enough. Laws are not being enforced and consequences for taking someone's life typically land to be less than that of a DUI.  That means something must change. And we're here to be part of that change.

We strive to:

  • Educate with integrity, using the most current and accurate data available to illuminate the realities of distracted driving.

  • Amplify the voices of survivors, giving them a platform to share their experiences and foster healing through connection.

  • Honor the memories of those lost, ensuring their families have the space to speak their truth and remind the world of the cost of inattention behind the wheel.

  • Reach current drivers with critical reminders about the laws, rules, and responsibilities that come with being on the road.

  • Empower frontline responders and medical professionals to share the unfiltered reality of what distracted driving truly looks like—from trauma rooms to roadside scenes—so their experiences can be part of the solution.

  • Stand beside survivors, offering comfort, community, and unwavering support, no matter how recent or distant their experience may be.

  • Equip parents with the tools and knowledge they need to guide their new drivers with confidence, clarity, and care.

  • Encourage honest conversations within families, helping them set clear expectations and healthy boundaries to keep young drivers safe.

We’re not just raising awareness—we’re building a movement grounded in truth, compassion, and a fierce determination to save lives. Because behind every statistic is a story—and we’re here to make sure it’s heard.
