Raising awareness begins with new drivers

All things begin at home. Our board is a group that strongly agrees that somewhere along the lines things have become lax. A teen reaches driving age, they pass the test and now days life is so busy that a passed test has become good enough. Maybe a few lessons on the road. Maybe you have been a driver of quite some time now, but like some of us...We didn't know certain laws were in effect. We've become a little too relaxed behind the wheel and because we have driven successfully for so long - we find ourselves thinking that we are invincible. We have to return to the days of firm education, tough talks and even boundaries with consequences that enable a change.

It's not just teen drivers that need to  be taught, it's the passengers as well. Passenger deaths due to distracted driving are at an equally alarming percentage.

Our goal with Survivors Against Distracted Driving is to EDUCATE and ADVOCATE. Advocate for Survivors but also to educate anyone and everyone that will listen. The Unites States is at a crisis level issue when it comes to drivers safety / road safety.  There IS no "beating a dead horse" when it comes to awareness where road safety is concerned.  To provide tools to families with new drivers - or - even to drivers that have been on the road and you want to implement the adequate awareness.

The following links will take you to two fantastic tools to use with your teens as passengers. As always, if you are looking for something different or specific and you can't find it here, please contact weenddtoday@gmail.com we will help you find what you are looking for!

Family Contracts

Things have changed and not in a positive way.

It seems like not too long ago it wasn't quite so easy to obtain a license. The state wanted to make sure you knew what you were doing and the laws of the road were carved into your head. Now they seem to be handed out easily. Take your permit test at home. Parents are showing them how to use the car and set them free. It's only lead to the problems we are seeing.

On our home page we have provided a link to pledge that you and your family will drive distraction free. The link will take you to a family contract that you can print out, sit down and go over with your new drivers. We looked over several pages, different contracts. We realize that not all contracts are a one size fits all. Therefore, we have linked a couple other's for your consideration.

Check points will help you create a personalized interactive parent/driver contract additionally with this contract you can earn the certificate that some states and schools require.

Checkpoints – Help your teen become a safe, independent driver
